About me

The short story…

I’m a mother, Doula, and a women’s rights activist. An adventurer and idealist at heart, I worked in the field of emergency humanitarian interventions for many years before choosing to train and provide services as a Doula in the United States. In 2017 I moved to Barcelona, city where I became a mother, city that welcomed my two children. And thus the calling to reconnect with the beautiful role of Doula, a role that through presence and active listening, cultivates love, understanding, and acceptance.

The long one…

This path is the result of many realized dreams, failed attempts, and interrupted aspirations. It is the accumulation of 42 years of life lessons, of academic knowledge, of the search for honesty within myself. What is at my core after it has been stripped off all the “supposed to’s”? What makes my heart smile? The answer is simple; I want to serve others. I now realize that honoring this truth has been one of the main driving forces of change throughout my life. It was one of the reasons I spent 5 years working in various countries for a medical humanitarian organization. It was also the reason why, at the age of 34, I decided to pursue a degree in nursing. However, 3 particular events affirmed in me the desire to and the importance of serving women in particular. To listen to women, to walk with women. The first event was witnessing a birth for the first time. I was working in Ethiopia (2012), and was with the project’s midwife when she was called for a birth. I really wanted to join her and will be forever thankful to the birthing woman for accepting my presence. That experience opened my eyes to the unique strength and rawness of women during the birthing process. It was also the beginning of a beautiful working relationship that offered me the opportunity to accompany other births. The second and third events were the births of my two children (2017, 2020). Throughout my pregnancies, labors, and postpartum periods, I received constant, personalized support from an amazing group of people. Because of them, moments of doubt and anxiety turned into opportunities for learning, as much about myself as about the birthing process. In moments of sadness I always had someone to talk to and console me. And moments of joy were made even more special because they were shared by all. I also feel that because I surrounded myself with wise women during my pregnancies, I was able to connect to the universal life force within, one that is intensified during gestation. Instead of feeling more vulnerable, the birthing process made me feel stronger and more powerful. With the understanding that each experience is personal and perfect in its own unique way, I am honored to be walking this path, to serve others by making the kind of support I received available to more women.
