LET’S WALK TOGETHER

Lilit mujer – in Essence

As a bilingual Doula working in Barcelona metropolitan area, I have the skills to support you through the different stages of the birthing process. I can share information about accessing pregnancy care in the city, accompany you to appointments, provide you with the latest research so that you can make informed decisions about your body, and be a source of constant emotional support.

I am a member of the Asociación Española Red Circular de Doulas.

Contact me to schedule a free meet & greet session.

Why LilitMujer?

Because I believe every woman is Lilit. The name refers to the Judeo-Christian myth of the first woman, created like Adam, in God’s own image. But Lilit’s creation is ill-fated, and she is soon casted aside as a daemon in favor of the more submissive Eve. I connected with this myth intimately, both at a personal and professional level. In my experience, Lilit represents all women because the goddess of creation lives within us. Since historically we’ve been taught to hide our talents rather than being empowered to use them, we hesitate unleashing our full potential for fear of being shunned. The name LilitMujer connects every woman to that original ancestor, honoring her and the goddess inside each and every one of us.

Why a Doula?

Evidence shows that continuous support during childbirth improves physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby (Cochrane Systematic Review, 2017). However, due to systemic issues such as patient and staffing ratios, continuous support in hospital based care is not a reality. This is where a Doula makes the difference. Doulas provide constant physical and emotional support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Doula support has been shown to: reduce the incidence of c-sections, reduce epidural and analgesic requests, increase breastfeeding initiation and continuation, increase mother’s satisfaction with the birth experience, as well as increase new parent’s confidence in the care of their newborn.

my background

PARAMANA DOULA,

Michel Odent & Liliana Lammers

Espai MIMAM – 2022

In this three day intensive course I reconnected with the essence of the doula profession and deepened my understanding of how to facilitate a conscious and physiological birthing process. It was an honor to listen to and learn directly from Dr. Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers, doula.

BREASTFEEDING PRACTICE AND RESEARCH,

The Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore MD – 2017

Beyond acquiring an understanding of how to support successful breastfeeding, as well as how to encourage initiation and duration, this course taught me to see the breastfeeding process within its cultural context. Feeding and eating are social acts, as such, breastfeeding support should be holistic, placing the mother/baby dyad in the center of an active environment that is in constant interaction with them.

YOGA TEACHER,

World conscious yoga family – 2008

I was blessed with the opportunity to complete a 200-hour yoga teacher training in the Anand Prakash Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh, India. Since then, I have used this knowledge for my own personal practice, as well as to enhance therapeutic relationships I have established as a nurse and birth companion.

MASTERS IN NURSING,

The Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore MD – 2017

While my role as a doula is non-medical, I use my nursing knowledge as an additional tool. In particular, I find it useful for answering questions about medical results, translating technical medical jargon between English, Spanish, and to a certain extent French, as well as ensuring women are making informed decisions about their bodies.

BIRTH COMPANION TRAINING,

The Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore MD – 2015

I am trained as a doula to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to mothers before, during, and after childbirth. I worked as a birth companion in Baltimore while completing my nursing education. Because of my language skills, I supported many spanish-speaking only mothers by accompanying them to their pre-natal appointments, being present during childbirth, and offering postpartum support.
